The John Lewis Christmas ad has been released and it's sad in a weird way

Serious Monsters, Inc. vibes

IN PREVIOUS YEARS, John Lewis Christmas ads have caused viewers to shed a tear or two. Who could forget the glorious moment when Buster the Boxer finally got a shot of his owner’s new trampoline?

In their brand new Christmas ad, we meet an adorable little boy who isn’t very fond of the monsters under his bed.

The monster, named Moz, snores really loudly and terrifies this innocent child, who is attempting to sleep in the bed above him.

The little boy is afraid of Moz and tries to evict the monster from the bedroom.

However, eventually a lovely friendship begins to grow between the pair. Every single day the little boy is exhausted from staying up all night playing with Moz. It’s very heartwarming… Until the end.

Here comes the sad bit…  The little boy receives a gift from an anonymous sender the next morning.

The gift? A night light.

Moz and the child wave goodbye one last time, before the night light comes on, making Moz disappear.

What the hell John Lewis? Why did you do that? This is like the end of Monsters, Inc. all over again. Not the usual happy tears we get from John Lewis ads. Can’t deny that it’s still cute though.

What’s your opinion on this year’s ad?
